Default safety Recall

Had my first recall letter through the post today, to do with the Auxiliary belt tensioner due to premature wear,

quote...
If the belt tensioner failed, there would be a loss of power steering assistance and you may experience a sudden loss of drive.
This aplies to S60s, V60s XC60s,V70s, XC70s and S80s(model year 2011)

Any one else?

Sounds like the typical VOSA way to describe any dangerous situations...unfortunately it seems Volvo still have not sorted this issue with aux drive belts.

Fantastic ! Thought I'd left this behind when I moved from a D5 to D3.
So the tensioners are still made from the holes in swiss cheese combined with the bubbles from an Aero chocolate bar.
My D5 was mapped, it got to the stage where the tensioners were being replaced as often as the engine oil and filter (12k miles/12 months).

Maybe they need to use chains instead of belts.
Is there still the risk of the ancilary belt smashing through the cam belt casing as with the old D5 ?

got it booked into the dealers Friday PM, said it would only take half an hour.
Doesn't seem long, thought it would maybe take longer.

Hmmm..... I haven't had this through yet, does anyone know what the VOSA reference is?

Just got back from the dealers and all OK
Took approx. 15mins.
The recall was for the utility belt (if that's what they're called now) tensioner.
Apparently there had been some problems with the earlier models than mine (pre 2010).

5 years on ....3rd incarnation of a tensioner still not right .. ... you are right , all they have to do is use a 240 or 850 tensioner arrangment but all the old school designers are gone now , we are left with 23 year old ford college graduates designing on their computer screens !

I Think this latest recall is for earlier cars which have not done enough miles yet to have the tensioner changed at service due to low mileage ( 36000 or 54000 ) yet years are passing by .
