4. Seems to be getting louder over time!

Is this indicative of the aux belt problem? I took it to my local Volvo garage (where it's been serviced for last 2yrs) and they had no ideas, but I was unable to leave it long enough to completely cool before testing.

Has 75k on clock btw, full Volvo history. Any ideas? And does anyone know the likely bill for a Volvo dealer fix?
Thanks.
I once found both tensioners on a C30 T5 were noisy ( there are two sprung tensioners one for the inner belt and one for the outer belt ) you need to take both belts off one at a time and run the engine in between and then spin the tensioners see which feel rough . Run the engine without the belts to see if the noise has gone first . Don't rule out the alternator bearing if you cant feel a rough tensioner bearing .

Tensioners on mine were quiet for the first couple of minutes then started to grumble after a few minutes. Yours sound the opposite.

I would expect them to be quiet when cold then start to make a noise once warmed up. To go quiet after some minutes suggests some lube is getting to whatever is causing the problem.

Ok, cheers chaps - I'll try to give these a go this weekend.
I'm surprised the dealer mechanics didn't look into this if it's a common D5 issue, if only to rule it out. But maybe they didn't want to…

I had exactly the same sound on a suzuki van and a suzuki jimny that I used to own and it was the alternator putting a good charge through from cold, it was only noticeable from cold start, so maybe the noise could be coming from the alternator.
