Default ‘98 940 2.3lpt Estate for sale (Dorset)

Hi all,
Just putting some feelers out about this. I’m thinking of selling my 940 Estate as I’ve recently replaced it with a 740 auto which I prefer over a manual.

It’s cosmetically very tidy and the interior is fantastic. It’s done 137,000 Miles and drives very well indeed.

It needs some bits doing-it has an oil leak from the cam seal and the NSR shock absorber clunks over bumps-the previous owner apparently replaced the Nivomat with a standard style stiff shocker so it needs a Nivomat fitting.

Control arm bushings have a touch of play which was an advisory at the last MOT and to make it 100% perfect it needs some little bits like the bellhousing exhaust mount, HT lead clip, NSR light lens and the little sliver of colour coded NSF top bumper trim. I was advised that the oil cooler pipes may need replacing due to the oil weep from the cam seal getting into them. This is all simple stuff for a DIYer but I don’t have the time or space to do the work myself.

It’s a great load lugger and hasn’t been abused. It had a cambelt 30,000 Miles ago but as this will have to come off if you wish to do the cam seals, it would be worth replacing.

All of the above bits don’t affect the driveability however-it’s totally useable as is, providing you check the oil level once a week or so.

I’m in two minds about selling it as it’s a great car and I’ve really enjoyed owning it.

Bearing in mind the bits it needs to make it perfect, I’d be looking for offers around the £850 mark.

I’m in Sherborne near Yeovil in Dorset.

Cheers
Phil

Colour?
Tyre tread?
Gearbox (m90)?
Upholstery - leather/cloth?
Tow bar or roof racks?

How does it handle with the single nivo in the rear? I'd have thought it would be listing like a mutha if you put any weight in the rear.

Pictures would be great. £850 sounds pretty reasonable if someone could get a single nivo or replace the lot with conventional shocks and springs... A reg plate would be useful too.

Sorry about the lack of details!

It’s in dark metallic blue, has half leather interior which is all in good order bar a broken door bin on the passenger’s side. It has a tow bar and roof rails but no rack.

Tyres have decent tread and it’s MOT’d until early Oct 2018.

Reg is R736YTR

It actually doesn’t handle badly at all with the odd mix of shocks-I had no idea about it until I took it into my local main dealer to diagnose a clunk over bumps. Any listing is fairly minor, although noticeable on some cambers when parked.

I’m not sure what box is in it-is there a way I can find this out?

I’ll take some pics tomorrow and post them 🙂

Your first post implied it has a manual box, and at that age it's an M90.

Easily confirmed if reverse is below 5th

I’m 99% sure it’s an M90 in that case-will double check when I get home.

I should add that the car also has a new back box and tailpipe, fitted just under a month ago.

I have-I’ll upload them in the morning. I’m struggling to reply to PMs as I have less than 30 posts at the moment, so feel free to email me off the forum at prdewhurst (at) googlemail (dot) com for more info.
