Default Swirl flap D5 (yes another one)

Im making a list of things to sort on my D5 so I know things have been done and I can settle a little.

One thing I noticed upon buying it was there was oil around the left hand side of the engine. Upon investigation I noticed it was the swirl flap. I’m aware this seems to be a common problem so I apologise for bringing the subject up again however, I can’t seem to find concise information on how to remedy/fix the problem.

The situation is, firstly the arm is left hanging and the other part of the linkage I accidentally pushed in and it kind of clicked and now I can’t get it back. I’m sure with some long nose pliers I could get it back down again. I’m assuming the arm attaches to this bit and then regulates the amount of open/close position?

So, if I can’t get the arm to attach back, what’s the options?

Secondly the oil is around this area. Most prominent on the other bit of the mechanism that I pushed back into towards the engine. Is this a separate issue or all related to the swirl flap workings?

Thanks everyone

You can reattach the arm using a hot nail to make a hole through the bit that the arm connects to and then something like a small nut and bolt to hold it in. Or you can try and replace it all with new.

Mine has been broken for two of the four years I have had the car. Makes no difference as far as I can tell so I have never tried to fix it.

That guides suggests it’s a little more involved than I thought. Looks like my arm is still attached to the mechanism but not attached engine side.

I’ll have a deeper look tomorrow with some light

I replaced mine about two years ago, changed the whole swirl throttle shaft complete.
Volvo recommend new injector lines and new injector clamp plates but I didn't change them.
I did fit a new rocker cover gasket and new injector sealing washers, the injector clamps I bent a couple of mill and reinstalled and the injector lines I just reused as is.
That was two years ago and I have had no problems with it, apart from, (and i'm being very picky here) a microscopic bit of diesel on the very top of No. 2 injector.
With it working fine I have noticed the induction noise is a little quieter and it goes about twice as far between dpf regens.

So do all the p2 v70’s have dpf’s?

I think I’m going to tackle this job in the summer. Will gather a list of parts etc
