Default Traction Control Temporarily Off

Thought I would post this up as a new finding with the car (As this has never happened to me and I have not read it on here), I know most or everyone should have this DSTC option on their dash and know how to turn it off and on 'Spin Control'

While racing I dont know if the car recognises your driving style if you drive it hard but the car automatically turns off traction control and then turns it back on when the car has settled (dont even have to switch the car on and off)

Has anyone heard or know about this? I guess I want to check if this is actual normal behaviour

To be honest I would say that's more of a fault than a feature, as in "the traction control is unable to work".

A manufacturer would get strung up if they sold cars that turn off safety features without the driver's input.

Might be worth getting the codes read? or have you had work done recently?

ah yeh good point, it worked fine back on the roads but couple mins into a track day and a good few corners of struggling grip it just couldnt hack it and would turn itself off .... that being said, when it turned of the car was immediately better and was very noticeable.

I have got a reader so I will have a look and update here

Mine has done that once in the last four years on a bitterly cold morning. I can't remember if it disappeared when I turned the car off and back on, or once I'd driven a few metres.

It may have turned itself off if it thinks it's cooked your brakes using the stability control?

Domhart10 - I agree with above, looks like a failure, defo not the feature. Its not supposed to recognise or "guess" whether you are racing or granny driving - its either on or off. From what I remember, my car will disable some systems after checking and deciding "something is not right". It also will react to overheated breaks and that was my first thought when seeing your message. Would that happen after hard run and few heavy breakings, maybe? As "traction control" does rely on combination of brakes and engine throttling, my guess would go towards braking system.

ok yeh the braking system sounds about right, brakes were incredibly hot and smelling pretty bad. I did have some breaks between stints of around 6 laps but im pretty sure after about 4 corners they were brought back up to temp again very quickly.

Since the track day on Saturday it has never apeared again and its all back to normal. So thats why I was thinking if this was a problem or not or if there is some sensor that detects this I have no idea .... but there it is and it definitely helped although initially I thought that was the end of my day.

If you have Vida you can get temp readout of all 4 discs and see maybe one of it heats up unevenly? It actually says somewhere in manual that DSTC will shut down if safe brake temp is exceeded. I did some tests on mine last year and reported temps on front&rear were around 280-290deg. Not sure what treshold is set for system to be disabled...

You can call up the brake disc temps? how does it measure that? there's no sensor wiring connected to or near the discs?

The ABS sensor would look at a 'ring gear' on the hubs but that's about it in my mind.

Yep, Vida provides temp for all 4 discs and even in manual it says somewhere its "sensor controlled". No clue what provides that info, my guess was also ABS sensor but cant really tell you how (in)accurate it is against the proper thermometer for example. I did some control runs to see how it behaves and works as expected (heats up from 30deg to almost 300 depending on usage and cools down dep on speed). Also highlighted thet one of my discs was heating a bit more then others (seized pads in rear).
