Regarding my clunk...
Jacked up the car (left side) and there's 2mm (not 2cm) between stopper and gearbox. Or should I measure while it sits on its tires? There's a clear clean spot above the stopper where the rest is smeared with oil (either the gearbox sweats or this is still from the replaced gator of the drive shaft). So it is clear that this makes contact at least once in a while.

Also the link between gearbox and front of the subframe seems strange, hardly any rubber visible, but I haven't found a decent picture what it *should* look like.

And how do I check the right engine mount? Just remove it and then feel if it has play or can I do this insitu?

Some pics:
My controlarm that I replaced 'recently (~4 years ago?). Gone again?

Gearbox mount, should this have more rubber?

And stop under gearbox with 2mm clearance while jacked up.

So what keeps the engine 'up'? I replaced the front engine (vacuum) mount but the rear was still OK back then. Is this the reason the engine can drop this low that the gearbox stop has hardly any clearance?

I'll test that next...

Edit: sucking on the engine mounts shows no leakage of any concern (my tongue sticks to it for at least 10 seconds when I suck it 'vacuum').
And the distance between gearbox stop and gearbox is still 2mm when I jack up the right side of the car.
I also felt the play of the top mount and though it has a lot of play (vid available), it shows no drying out or torn rubber. The right side of the control-arms did show dried out rubber (small slits in the rubber) and the same 'tear' as the pic above. Luckily I still have the old controlarms and brother-in-law just bought a press, so what rubbers should I get to put in them?

Forget rubber, get Powerflex polybushes!
