S40 1.6d power loss diagnosis
Hi all, hoping you can come to the rescue please. My fathers s40 1.6d has an intermittent problem. You can be driving along and the power will die. Switch off the ignition, back on again and it’s ok. It’s not coming up with any reduced power warning on the dash and no fault codes are showing. The garage said it was the fuel filter so they replaced that and it’s no different. I’m thinking something electrical / a relay etc. Any suggestions please? Thanks in advance. Nick

My car did the same last year and it was fixed after many parts where replaced. Volvo Diagnostics in Essex changed the CEM and it made an improvement but as it was running rough for so long as we where trying to find what was broken I had to replace a lot of parts. I think it was all down to a faulty ECU so I suggest taking it to a Volvo Specialist as it will save a lot of money in the long run.

DPF pipes?
My C30 did the same. Two narrow bore pipes connect the DPF to the exhaust system, one metal, the other rubber. Either can corrode and leak, causing the shut down you describe due to pressure failure. With mine it was the rubber one, but I had both replaced as a kit. Fixed it.
