Once hot it reacts faster and that's when it starts smelling. Cast your mind back a couple of decades to when petrol cars still outnumbered diseasels and if you drove round the M25 at 3am, you'd know exactly where the traffic jams had been because there was a lingering smell of rotten eggs. All the traffic just sitting there with hot cats spewing H2S into the atmosphere! *** EDIT *** have a read of the "Unwanted Reactions" section in this : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalytic_converter

I think all you need is an Italian tune up on the way to the MoT (via a 40 mile detour) - a bit of 70 MPH is 3rd gear should solve the problem by the time you get to the MoT station :-). Alan

Brave Mecco
Mecco said he took her a short distance from Rochester to Strood late last week (the screen is currently halfway through being done - remove, grind as necessary, weld, smooth and primer - then new screen - and he wanted to borrow a mate's secure yard) and said that even over that short distance she was much less smelly. The new screen goes in tomorrow (minus trim) and I have the windscreen trim clips and the front brake flexi clips ready, then Mot later this week, spray windscreen surround (so the top coat and lacquer can get as far back into the surround as possible) and as far back as the sunshine roof on the 6th Dec, then trim back on and with luck job done - and await probably huge bill. Welding, leaks, drop links, rack, flexies and clips, front backplates and teh screen. He says the brakes feel "hard" and the rear discs are a bit rusty so I hope that does not turn out to be seized rear calipers or the brake balance valve. Or the servo!
