Downloading North West Europe over the air now.

I normally use the USB downloads as they're a lot faster, both to download and install. However the last couple (1311 and 1320) both caused the navigation part of my V90's Sensus to get very confused - it would make a start on the install then the percentage complete would disappear, and then the nav wouldn't initialise at all. The dealer discovered that a factory reset would bring it back but you lose all of your settings of course!

Has anybody else had this problem?

Over-the-air and the individual-region USB updates work okay, but both are a faff because you have to reboot between each OTA, and you'd need 15 or so USB sticks to do those downloads in one go (you can't put several onto one stick.)

Downloaded onto a 128gb USB yesterday afternoon, loaded it into the car today ( approx 45mins ).

Only had the car a few days so it was the first time doing the maps.

All went smoothly and is pretty straightforward 👍

As someone relatively new to Volvo, is this the frequency that Volvo releases the map updates at? It seems like the previous version only came out a month or two ago.

I'd like to know this aswell.

Still beats the Mercedes mentality that means you have to book it into the shop for an update. Fine when its under 3 years old, but very costly there after. Also an inconvenience for just updating off maps.

Going to update mine to this today.

Hi, yes Volvo issues map updates pretty frequently and at present they are free for the life of the car.

Thanks, that's pretty positive news. I had a Ford before the current S60 and the map updates where free and self-do able but the process was a little over complicated and the map frequency was about 2 maps updates a year maybe. If I carry out this one, that'll be the third one since I got the car in September and the process to update via USB is very efficient.

I love the Volvo approach to map updates - if it's too frequent for anyone then you ca always skip an update or three.

My wife has just swapped out her Motability XC60 for a Renault Kadjar and the way to update is very similar. However, the last update issued by Renault was in 2019 and the file name is xxx.2018.xxx so I presume it to actually be an update from 2018 that was published in early 2019 - not a big fan that the maps appear to be at least 2 years out of date on a brand new car!! Still, maybe I can get her back in a Volvo in 3 years' time when this contract is up..

At least 5 map updates a year so far for the SPA models.

Yes, we've had two in the last couple of weeks, 1320 and 1323, normally one every couple of months as a rule.

As Suffolk Boy says, free for the life of the car at present, unlike Toyota which has just cost over £100 to update my wife's Auris and is a right faff to do!
