The URO seal came with a little dielectric silicone grease. It feel sticky but I tested it in the freezer and it stays quite fluid. I'd make sure it's 100% synthetic, I believe the seal is made of regular rubber, non resistant to petroleum products, so anything that has petroleum to it will cause the seal to seal and fail quickly

I fitted a new seal, the red type, just a couple of weeks ago. I had read that it could be done in situ, but believe me, that's impossible in my opinion.
Fitting the seal was a real pain and had to be done a fraction at a time using a large flat blade screwdriver to force it in. Getting the servo out was another tricky part, although mine is LHD so no need to lower the engine. I did try putting more lubricant on the shaft before changing the seal, but that didn't work. Anyway, the new seal works and it's happy days with no hissing now.

Myself and the OP both fitted the same red seal and it worked fine until now .... a year later.

Suitable lubricant for silicone rubber?
Hi Everyone
The red seal from Poland is made from silicone rubber. We are all only in search of 1 answer. What is the most appropriate lubricant for silicone rubber? I'm sure this forum's membership has the depth of knowledge (retired organic chemists, engineers etc.) to answer this question. I'm not an expert forum user. Can someone help to put this question to the forum's wider readership? Thanks P. |

Hi. I used the tube that came with the seal. I'm sure it was the PTFE type.

Did you fit the red seal from Poland and if so, how long ago did you fit it?

Hi. Sorry for the delay. I fitted it about 4 weeks ago. Still working as it should.

Thanks for the update, it seems people start having problems with these seals after 1 year.

Brake servo - Aftermarket gasket failure
The Polish replacement gasket has failed. See attached pic. The gasket has split.
Do not waste your time with these aftermarket solutions. Mega stress during fitting; mega stress during subsequent gasket failure after a year or so. Better to fit a complete new/used servo unit. Engine will need to be dropped by 10 cm. Approx. 4 hours labour. Sounds worse than it is. Peace of mind. Cheers P. |
