turning circle v70
Hi all, what i would like to know is, what is the turning circle of the v70 2000 onwards?
I currently run two cars.1 a 98 2.5 xlt v70. fantastic car, good ride, good turning circle. Can turn this anywhere real easy! 2, 01 2.0 t se s60. again great car , turning cirle is, how can i put it? Something to be desired! Dont get me wrong i am not complaining, i have learned to live with it ,had the car 5 years now, would like one set of bills instead of two! So, obviously its time for a change.I am considering buying a newer model v70.how does the newer model v70 compare to the older? Is it similar to the s60? hope some one can help, any ideas what£5000 will buy at the moment? thanks |

My 2002 V70 turns like a barge, like you say though you do get used to it.
Parallell parking was entertaining at first, now i can drop it into the tiniest of spaces in one go (well maybe two!) |

By a long way, my 2003 V70 D5 has the worst turning circle of ANY vehicle I have ever driven and that includes large vans like the IVECO Daily etc. It really is absolutely diabolical. Don't say you haven't been warned. You do get used to it after a while but it's still a nuisance. It is so bad that you have to really think ahead when driving around constricted town centres with small mini roundabouts and tight junctions.
By far, the worst aspects of the V70 D5 (in my opinion and in order of severity - 1=worst) are as follows: 1. Rear leg room is a joke (more room in a Fiesta) 2. Dreadful turning circle 3. Completely bird brained main beam/headlight stalk operation. Something so simple shouldn't be made so damn stupid. 4. Steering is too heavy. We all like a bit of feel with the steering but it's still too heavy and makes the car tiring to drive in urban areas. 5. Dodgy front suspension with all sorts of knocking problems that are a damn nuisance to locate. 6. Crap handbrake system with silly individual brake shoes and poor performance. Also unreliable and troublesome. 7. Fiddly sound system with oversensitive knobs for changing CDs and CD to radio etc. 8. Tailgate doesn't open high enough so taller people (like me) are always splitting their heads open on the corners of the boot lid when open. Good points about the V70 D5: 1. Great interior with superb seats and good quality components. Excellent dash and console layout. Looks great. 2. Decent performance 3. Excellent fuel economy considering the size of the engine and vehicle 4. Decent build quality all round 5. Brilliant sounding stereo system 6. Unusually nice engine sound from the diesel 7. Decent and wide boot space. 8. Reasonably safe

You think the turning circle on a V70 is bad???? Try a C70, it's even worse (but worth it in my opinion for all the benefits the car has).

Agree. The V70 turning circle is rubbish. I came back from France recently when the Tunnel was shut and had to use Speedferries catamaran. Being first in the queue meant I had to park in the very top of the boat which merant lots of tight turns in the V70. Even swinging as wide as I could, I had to take 2 or three goes to get round each turn. I dont think I was too popular with the people behind me.

Absolutely agree. Turning circle is diabolical and it's beyond belief that a manufacturer can produce and pass a vehicle that is so bad. This is my first Volvo, 2005 V70, and because of this, it will definitely be my last. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely car and mine has just about every option that is possible to have, including 18" nebula alloys with 235 tyres, so with the limiters on, it's even worse, but I find it such a pain on small roads and car parks. Oh and the tyres rub quite badly on full lock.
