Default Brake lights gone V40 but bulbs OK

Hi All
I'm a brand new user. My brake light are not working. Actually not all of them. The first was the body right light. I checked the bulb and found no burned coil/spiral? Now both flap+right body are not on. The only ones left are middle flap and left body. I was warned by "brake lightbulb failure warning". I think(as the bulbs are OK) that the fuses are gone. Any help how to check it? Or what is wrong?
Many thanks in advice!
Michal

If your tail lights are only working on one side, it is probably the fuse in the engine compartment, there's one for each side. This section in the user manual shows where they are (the link that takes you to either the cabin or engine fusebox is swapped around, just scroll down the page )...

Slightly confused by what you mean by the brake light failure warning. This will illuminate in the dash when it cannot detect the current drain for the brake bulbs, and happens after you have pressed the brake for the first time. Normally this means the brake light bulb is broken, it can also light up if you have installed LED bulbs. There is a fuse for the brake lights in the cabin fusebox, you may find that that fuse is also blown.

Have you tried changing the bulbs, because they don't always look blown when failed?
Also check the holder contacts are clean.
If the brake fuse in the left door footwell area blows, none of the brake lights work and you don't get a warning light.

Thank you for all the answers. V40alex, yes the dashboard light is on and it actually warned me that something is not right. What is strange that it started from one bulb and then the others went off. It may be due to two days of constant rain in my area. But I'll follow your advice and check all possible culprits.

If the brake light switch on the brake light was faulty, then ALL brake lights would not be working. This sounds like corroded wiring or a bad earth. I am afraid you will have to take out the multimeter and start checking for continuity from the rear brake lights and all the way to the front. You could establish whether the problem is at the front half of the car or the rear half, by doing the continuity check at the middle of the car. If you remove the rear door plastic sills, and lift the carpet slightly, you will see two big connectors connecting the rear loom to the front of the car

I am currently having this same problem except I replaced the pedal switch and no go. All 3 brake lights out, all other lamps working. Fuses checked. 1997 v40 2.0. Any tips before I start ripping carpet out to trace the wires?
