How to retime Volvo nonGDI 1800?

Having eliminated pretty much everything causing the horrid lack of go in my v40 1.8 auto, I believe the timing is out after the previous owner had the VVT pulley changed. Suspect the garage bollocks'd up the timing.

How can I reset the Timing?

It's summer, matey, normal folks are enjoying the weather

Given Clan's experience he will be best versed on the VVT timing set up.

You're right. Giving a toss whether the timing is out on your £600 Volvo is a bit ****.

The camshafts need to be locked at the rear/gearbox end of the engine prior to removing the cam belt and VVT pulleys from the front of the engine. To do so you either need to purchase the correct set of tools, fashion your own set or just take it to Volvo or a good Volvo Independent to reset it. Without the correct setting/alignment/locking tools and counterholds you'll struggle to set it 100%.

I'm aware of the cambelt change procedures above, using something like https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F153516231600

However, I need to fix/correct the timing so I'd need to move (probably) the intake by a tooth or so.

Question is, how to get it correct?

The camshaft locking tool you linked is typically used for holding the sprockets in place whilst changing the cam belt.

On the VVT head you first need to align and lock the camshafts themselves with the correct tool (eg.9995452), from the rear of the engine, in order to then loosen and set up the correct position of the VVT sprockets against the plastic cover markings.
