Headlights
Hi guys,
A bit cheeky as its my first post, but i am after some info for my parents 1996 S40. My parents always complain about their headlights being p00 and cant see anything as the light is too dim. They have recently put rally bulbs in and it has improved slightly. My question is when did Volvo release the s40 with clear glass headlights? and would they fit a 96 model? Thanks Merry Christmas |

Hi,
I suspect that "Phase I" and "Phase II" lamp systems are different. Instead of using over rated bulbs you would likely be better off with phillips extreme or Osram nightbreakers... Welcome to the forums and enjoy your time here.. Des. . .

Bear in mind though newbos that while the newer units do physically fit in the older models, the wiring is considerabley different due to the use of two lamp units in place of one. This is not a simple swap and plug job. There are plenty of threads on this site showing the job, and I would recommend reading all of these before you decide on a course of action.

You'll get the response "I have sold many of these units to people in the UK, they can easily be adjusted for use in your country". I can assure you they can't! They are "E" marked, but marked "E4" which means they are LHD! Although some headlight reflectors can be swapped side for side to make them RHD, unfortunately the X40 ones can't. Only way to make these RHD is to buy new reflectors for them! I recommend you only buy headlights marked with "E11" for the UK. This way you'll know they are RHD, you will pass your MOT & not blind every other driver. Funnily enough if you look at the sellers feedback, their most recent negative feedback is from a Volvo X40 owner saying they are not suitable for the UK! Item number: 150184041083 Its not me by the way, I do have a set of DEPO headlights though, I was caught out with this two years ago when they traded under the name "EUROLIGHTSFORLESS" they may still be going & this may be another seller but they are very similar. |
