Unhappy 1.9D turbo fails is it a common problem?

last night my V40 2002 1.9 TD started whining just before white smoke started comming out of the exaust, i then pulled over and turned it off but had to stall it so it would stop as was over running faster and faster. i know it is the turbo that has gone but has any one else had any problems wirh these renault engins? it only has 50k on the clock and i alwas let it cool off after any trips. Also i went to turn it over it this morning and it would not turn over. could i have burst an oil pipe inside and filled a cylinder with oil? any feed back at all is welcom.

This is a common problem with the laguna2 and other Renault cars with the dCi badge.
