6 speed Manual Gear box in a 850?
Just wodering can this be done at all?
Could i make my car have a 6 speed instead of a 5 speed? Searched the Interweb and i cant see anyone who has done that or even thought about it? Was thinking maybe i could use the s60 or v70r Gearbox and make a adapater plate? |

I would post this on (1) Swedespeed or (2nd) MatthewsVolvoSite, there is more of a modification/performance vibe on these sites. There are some knowledgeable people around that seem to know these kind of facts and figures off the top of their heads...

I've thought about it but never looked into it. Do keep us updated if you find anything.

Here you go, it actually seems fairly common and well figured out. There are two threads on it below. There is also another two fellows on this forum that have done it several times themselves.
https://ovlov94blog.wordpress.com/20...-with-lsd/amp/ http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/146516-m66-vs-m56/ Seems the M66 is the gearbox of choice, specifically the M66 out of a Focus ST225 as some of the component placement on the Volvo M66s actually complicates the swap. The first link has all the details on what you need, but roughly its a new clutch and clutch line, new engine mounts, and a modified lever assembly. It also seems like there is no benefit to this at all (other than commanlity of the M66 gearboxes) due to identical ratios between 5th and 6th on the M56 and M66 respectively, so it is no more economical. The ratios overall are also similar enough that it offers no performance gain in terms of acceleration and top speed. One interesting caveat though is that M66s from the Focuses (Foci?) can be fitted with an MFactory LSD, which may help in the twisties.

Yea I've just joined up. I've noticed that this club isn't much about performance ect but still a very helpful site to use. |

The first m66 gearbox I fitted to an 850 was the st focus gearbox but as it's been mentioned it's ratios are the same as the m56.
The second m66 gearbox I fitted was from a xc70 d5 as I converted the 850 to awd. The d5 gearbox is a lot better ( 6th gear at 2000rpm = 80mph ) https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...CXbAClFwriMOqy
