Hands Free Removal

My V40 came with a Nokia hands free thing fitted, I don't have a mobile and want to remove it as it's in the way, is this an easy job?

I can see there's a cable from the phone holder that disappears under/behind the stereo, where does it go, and does this mean the stereo has to come out to remove it?

The speaker is down in the passenger footwell and I assume that will be easy enough to remove, there's also a little black/grey plastic thing on the right hand side of the screen stuck on with velcro, is that part of it too? I can't find it in the manual so I assume it's not an original bit of kit, a mic maybe?

If you follow the wires behind the stereo you should find a black box. Remove this and all the cables (carefully), ditto the cradle. The microphone (black thing attached with velcro) will probably require a bit more thought but you can remove it as well - again proceed carefully because a hard pull might disturb other things. I had to replace a Nokia kit and it came out fairly easily if a bit slowly as I worked out where everything went- only had to replace it because I got a new phone(not Nokia) and the sim card wouldn't function in my old phone. New kit is Bluetooth.

OK thanx, so it sounds as though the stereo needs to come out to get at the black box, is that right? In which case how do I get the stereo out?
Is the stereo actually connected to the phone, I know some of them automatically mute the stereo when you use the phone, is this one of them?

Removal of the side panel in the passenger footwell should give access to the unit.

OK I'll try that. If I'd thought about it I should have just asked the dealer to remove it before I collected the car.

If it's a genuine, properly fitted, Nokia kit it will mute the stereo but if there is no phone in the cradle there is no issue. By removing the cradle and the black box you will experience no issues.

I've had a look at this thing this morning and I can't figure out how to remove it!
Probably sounds a bit stupid, but when I open the glove compartment instead of seeing a couple of screws attaching the phone cradle as I expected, all I can see is what appear to be a couple of plastic rivets, do I just drill these out or what?
I'm trying to remove it doing as little damage to it (and more importantly the car!) as possible, it may be of use to someone else, but it's getting a bit frustrating now and I'm inclined to just take a pair of wire cutters to the cables, although I assume some of them are power cables for charging so maybe that's not such a good idea?

I wouldn't think there would be a problem drilling out the plastic rivets but mine was screwed on.

I'm not sure that they are rivets, but I can't think what else they might be. At first I thought they were screwhead covers but they don't seem to come off, and you can't prise them out, so I think I'll have to drill them.
At least I found out how to remove the stereo, easy when you know how, maybe a bit too easy, I was expecting to need a special tool at least, although I can't see too many people wanting to nick a Volvo stereo.

With my car I just take out the screw arrowed and I can slide back the carpeted panel to revel the components of the phone kit. Hope this helps...

My I ask what you plan to do with the phone kit once removed?
