Default 2.4i - Any good?

Very likely chopping in the 2.0d as I no longer need a diesel!

What's the 2.4i like? I know its fair bit quicker from a standstill than 2.0d but I want something that likes to rev and will sound good with a nice exhaust.......I get the impression the T5 turbo will kill some of the 5pot growl?

Fenton,

It was never a big seller the 2.4i, underpowerd and thirsty by all accounts.

I would go for a T5 over the non turbo 2.4i, I would say their was no loss of 5 pot growl whith the T5, infact it's one of the plus points with the Focus ST as you know same engine.

yes get a T5 it wont use any more fuel! The 2.4i is nice enough , remarkably smooth but i think volvo have killed off any performance it might have had by a high final drive ratio like they have always done when they put a big motor in a small car , like the carb version of the 2 litre 360 ! But with that they also gave it a very heavy flywheel to tame it further , it took 5 seconds for the engine to get from 800 rpm to 6000 rpm ... in neutral .. so it was quicker if you changed into second gear as soon as the car was moving rather than try and rev it in first gear ..

Plenty of Growl here... I'll post some vids (camera not the best quality)

Get a T5... one day you'll pull up to someone in a T5... and wish you had one too...

get a K&N on your T5 and you can hear everything.

Sports exhaust with the middle box welded out... even better

Historically i avoid the 2.4i's in all but the C70 mostly due to the re-sale opportunities being low due to lack of desirability and running costs.
Engine needs working hard to get it moving with any purpose, personally the T5 get's my vote over the 2.4i.

Get a T5 for sure!

Mine's boggo standard and still makes a nice noise.

I also get a solid 25mpg driving swiftly using full acceleration regularly and about 33mpg on a steady run. Couple all this with a comparatively simple and reliable petrol engine and you can't go wrong.

For some strange reason S60 T5 260bhp quotes are cheaper than S40 T5..

If I buy T5 it won't be S40!!

I don't want a diesel tbh....

I took my mums vtec accord for a run the other day and you cannot beat an engine that likes to rev, even if there is no torque!
