I think the TC is only variable because it assumes you are using no fuel when stationary so the less you reset it the accurate it should become (assuming you spend more time moving than sat in traffic - which is questionable these days!).
It can't do because when you stop in traffic, or at the lights, or sitting on the drive with the engine running, the fuel cosumption starts falling. The more you stop the less accurate it is, as far as knowing how well the engine is performing it terms of fuel economy.

I got my eco settings from the forum. They are written down somewhere in the handbook I belive.

All the best.

Roy

That's sort of what I meant.

My figures are fairly constant (click my signature mpg figure for a list). The only larger figure (9 liters per 100km (31.4mpg)) was in the mountains while on holiday, the only lower one was on the way home (7.5 liters per 100km (37.5mpg), German autobahn with sensible speeds:70-80mph)

These are driven kilometers divided by the distance, not the Volvo computer

But how are you measuring the fuel? Brimming the tank to tank? Even then the amount the pump delivers varies from garage to garage. Best to do it at the same garage pump every time if you want a totally accurate figure. Fuel pump are notrious for giving you less than you pay for though. (In the UK at least)

All the best.

I think it would have been an 850. There wasn't an AWD version of any of the RWD models...apart from race cars. The 'off road' AWD models (in terms of larger estates) went as follows...

850 Cross Country
V70XC (Phase 1)
XC70 (Phase 2)
XC70 (Phase 3)

There was a normal V70 AWD, but only in certain models...no T5 AWD, for example. I think that was to prevent a T5 AWD stealing sales from the V70R. Similarly, you can get a V50 T5 AWD, but not an S40...(if memory serves correctly)...?!

cheers

James

Yes, brimming. If the gasstations stiff me, then it is actually more fuel efficient than I thought

Dutch fuelpumps are individually checked for accuracy every 1 or 2 years by an independent (semi?)government agency. There was a big riot recently when a consumer TV program proved that you got stiffed at each tank they tested, but after the official agency told them the flaws of their measuring method, the TV-show redid the test and recanted all their claims publicly.

So not too worried about that.

I'm sure it was a 740 James. They hadn't started making the 850 when he bought it, and he got it before I got my 940 and it was pretty much the same as the 940 but squarer at the front. It had Cross Country written in big letters across the back. We did go into a muddy field once and the AWD did work on it. I'll ask him if he has any photos with it in.

All the best.

Hi James. I getting confused about the Volvo cars we've both had. I've just rememberd it had a digital readout at bottom of the instruments and I know the 740 didn't have that. He had a 740 before the AWD car, but I don't think AWD car was an 850, so most likley a V70XC. Anway I've emailed him and asked him what model it was.

All the best.

Roy

If it said "Cross Country" across the back, it could be either an 850 CC or a V70XC (phase one), so I think you're on the money with the V70XC suggestion.

cheers

Yes James, you were right, was a 1998 V70XC. The one that had to have all the tyres the same depth of tread all the time.

All the best.
