Default Volvo Breakers on the A1 ??

I drove past a place on the A1 many times in the days before I did my own mechanicking, (that is apparently not a word)
I think it was on the A1 on the west side of the carriageway near a junction somewhere not north but not south neither.

What was it?
Is it still there?
Can I get some spares there?

The reason for this thread is a trip down to Sheffield next week and maybe I can kill three birds with one stone...

Lakes are often recommended by Nick Lewin upstairs in the 240 section.

Phone them to make sure they're still there and open.

Last time i was there just over a year ago, they were on the point of closing - the land has been sold and the two brothers that run it are retiring after 6+ decades of working.

I can't remember which brother it was i dealt with (Barry i think, apologies if it was Bernie) but he told me the story of how he bought it and built the business up and how it had recently been sold and they just had to clear it.
At the time they were in fact past their original date for closing, they'd had a reprieve as there was more stuff there than originally thought.

Sheffield is still a fair bit north of Wyboston (about 100 miles i think) and as i didn't know where Haltwhistle is, i looked it up on GaggleMops :

"Haltwhistle is a small town and civil parish, 10 miles east of Brampton" is what i read at first glance. First thought was you weren't that far as there is a Brampton not far from Lakes Garages :

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/...5!4d-0.2201557

Then i read it again and read this :

"Haltwhistle is a small town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, 10 miles east of Brampton" and realised you were miles further north than Sheffield even!

Good luck if you do manage to make it there, they used to have literally a mountain of spares, now it's barely a molehill in comparison.

Thank you Eddie and everyone,
I'll ring them on monday,
but since it is further down than I'm going it's unlikely I'll pop in on this trip.

You never know though.

Anything Volvoish I'm missing on my A1/M1/Sheffield trip then?

Last time I was in Haltwhistle which is "near Acomb", the ancient very slightly faded now builder's yard sign proclaimed the proprietors as Hadrian's Legionary Army Corps.

Isn't Haltwhistle regarded as the centre of the UK?

And rightly so.

Last time I visited I was so concentrating on giving our friend a lift from Acomb, I forgot to take the enemy to visit The Wall. Oops....
