1987 Volvo 340gl custom radio
Hi all!
I have just purchased a gorgeous 97 340 and I was wondering if anyone has installed a custom radio into one of these before? If you have links to any wiring you bought please share! Thanks in advance. Chris Last edited by chrisforbes; Apr 14th, 2015 at 11:00. |

Usual wiring, you will have one 'hot' 12 volt feed and one ignition switched 12 volt and a chassis ground. You will have two sets of loudspeaker wires, left and right +ve and ground (although it won't matter if you get these the wrong way round.) Also rear and front, same pattern.
Might be an electric antenna feed and the aerial plug. That's it really. The easiest approach is to inspect the radio you are trying to fit. It might have any one of many sockets with all the above wired to it. There should be a diagram on the radio or with the instructions which wire is which. Get some screwblock and wire your existing car wires to one side and the corresponding plug for the radio on the other.

has the car already got iso plugs on the original wiring loom ? i know my 940 has which was manufactured around the same year , if so it will be simply a matter of buying the correct conversion leads from your local auto shop and plugging in your new chosen head unit . my 940 is probably going to receive a new alpine bluetooth cd radio unit next month

Okay soooo, I ended up buying a cassette to MP3 converter which is working perfectly!
Thank you for the input. Chris |

I prefer the authentic sound of vinyl with my gramophone deck and 8 track stereo. Bit skitty on corners though.
