Suspension: 140: - Lowering a 145

Hey I am new to the Volvo world (been looking for a long time to get one)
But I have finally bought myself a lovely 145 and am just wondering when lowering it does one need to change the shocks!? I will need to change them anyway but will I need to get shortened ones or will regular ones do?

My plan is to lower the volvo around 100mm on lowering springs! Also would 5.5in wide springs fit the rear of the car!?

Thanks Matt Ive been looking there but I was just wondering if anyone would know whether a 5.5inch rear spring would fit into a 145!?
And are adjustable shocks just the comfort or does that determine ride height too!?

Might be worth doing a bit of research to see if the Panhard rod will need to be replaced with an adjustable one. With a drop that far you may find it starting to push the axle sideways. Classic Swede listed above & IPD in the USA may be good starting points,

To lower 100mm you will need shorter dampers to hold the springs in place as they will be a lot shorter than original. The adjustment if for bump and rebound rates to make them work with different spring rates. You will need to use either adjustables or dampers with custom valving to work with the springs.

You are also going to need to trim the bump stops down a fair way. The panhard rod need to be shortened to centre the axle as when lowered the panhard rod pushes the axle over to the LHS.

The top axle arms will need adjusting to square the axle back to the prop.

I don't have 140 100mm lowering springs in stock but can get some made. I do keep amazon 100mm lowering springs and 60mm ones.

You could use 5.5 inch springs on the back but you will need to buy make up top and bottom seats for them that are tall so the springs don't slip off.

What age is your 145 pre 1973 or post 1973?

Oh ok there is a lot more than I expected!
Is all this stuff easily got Like the Panhard rod!?
And is trimming the bump stops and adjusting the top axle arms easily done!?

Would you, Classicswede, be able to make up 100mm lowering springs for all round? And I think I saw that you sell adjustable dampers too yeah!?

It's a 1974 145!

Yes I can make up a set of 100mm lowering springs.

The easy way to alter the bars is simply to cut and weld them back together with a sleeve to give it strength.

The 74 has different rear springs hence why asking the question

Yes I can do front and back in the correct fitment for 74 models

Ok a stiffer ride is good! It all sounds good! Could you give me a rough estimation on how much you charge for the 100mm lowering springs and shortened dampers all round!?
