Default Advice on buying a codes reader

Hi all
Interested on buying one that allows me to read and clear error codes set.
Nothing fancy needed, no logging etc.

What do you advise ?

Message Chesired5 on here. He'll point you in the direction of a very cheap one. He has a 'How to Use' guide for it too.

Is this something to do with it? I posted in the thread a couple of days ago to ask if it worked on P3 models, and Chesired 5 kindly replied that it did.

The ELM327 dongle is superb for live data and reads engine fault codes only and even then, not 100% of codes. Approx £10

If you want to read ABS, SRS and auto transmission then something like the Autel EU702 or MD801 is great with the added benefit of multiple manufacturer code reads for other family cars. Approx £120

Your car has 20+ modules though so for more in depth, dedicated Volvo scanning, the icarsoft i906 is a very good option. Approx £90

The daddy of them all for Volvo is Dice and Vida but you need a suitable spec laptop.
Dice unit is Approx £60-£100 and seller reliability and quality can vary.

I can vouch for the icarsoft i906 really simple to use and nice and quick to get started.

Thanks, I'll go with the ELM327 for now.
