Default 945 suspension struts

The suspension struts on my 1991 945 are quite rusty around the lower spring pan. I would have liked to fit new (I know they are expensive) but they seem to be discontinued everywhere I have looked.
A couple of questions:
# is the corrosion likely to cause a suspension fail - does this happen at all? And what can be done to strengthen that area.
# does anyone know where I might get a pair of new or very good struts?( Non ABS, but I think I could use either)

They can rust through the spring pan/strut body, I would look at stripping the struts down and electrolytically converting the rust back to solid metal.

Thanks griston. They look excellent. I see they have the parallel stub axle, I would need to check what my 1991 945 has, if these are for sale!
Otherwise it would be good to know where you got these done and what the cost was.

Many thanks

Hi Ian

The ones pictured I removed from a car I broke and put into my 96 car when I rebuilt all the suspension. I got those blasted and powdercaoted at ESP in Glasgow

The ones I have spare are out of my 96 car so would have the same stub axle

Cheers, Mark

Thanks Mark. I guess these aren't for sale then? Just would make a suspension rebuild much quicker and simpler if you have all the parts ready laid out!

Thanks again Mark. I would be interested in a set which I could dismantle and refurb. Perhaps we could do a trade? I have quite a collection of spares which I will probably never use, mostly from a 945 with a B230F engine and 5 speed box.
If you wish we could discuss via email - send me a pm if you wish
