@coolbeans, I have the car now for almost 1,5 year and i love it, it has never let me down, other then the alarm and the boot lock, previous owners did not give the car a hard time as a result the Turbo had to be replaced it was full with gunk. So yes, horror stories, but err, there is no perfect car! Just enjoy it, that's the message.

The trouble with motoring forums is the majority of posts are from people who are experiencing problems. You rarely hear people saying that everything is working just fine, even though that is what the majority of owners find most of the time.

My XC70 is just north of 202,000 miles and is still going strong. Other than standard servicing items, I've only had new intercooler and flexiplate (the auto equivalent of the flywheel). So far, it has been one of the most reliable and cheap to maintain cars I've ever owned. Of course, there will be some dodgy ones out there, but that is true for any make and model.

Thanks guys. I'll keep her maintained along with the crossed fingers. Just shod it with four new Hankooks and it's a transformed vehicle from the Event rubbish that was on it. Service next month too and then a polish methinks.

2007 S60 D5 manual, approaching 100k miles in my ownership, total mileage of 200k not too far away. It's been an excellent car and owes me nothing.

If buying similar again, I would want 16" wheels for comfort and turning circle. Check history for DMF, clutch, clutch slave, cambelt, driveshafts and intercooler.

For preference, buy from a local dealer so that you can take it back if any faults appear immediately following purchase.

Give it a good caning to keep the DPF clear, I do sometimes wonder what condition the EGR is in, but the engine thrives on revs, so it's probably OK (?!)
