1800E 123 Electronic ignition
Any advice on fitting "123ignition" electronic ignition distributor to an 1800E much appreciated. I bought the distributor from Brookhouse and it has taken a few phone calls to sort out the connections, as the initially supplied instructions were wrong. I think I'm set to start work now, but:
1. any tips/hints for the novice? 2. will I need to have the tacho reconfigured for electronic ignition? Thanks ! |

You don't have the famous "Armored Cable" of the earlier 1800s, tying dashboard located Ign Sw together with Ign Coil, but the info here and associated links, along with installation instructions which were hopefully included with your purchase of 123Ign Dist, should get you there. See: http://www.sw-em.com/123Ignition_in_...ored_Cable.htm See also general ign info: http://www.sw-em.com/123Ignition_in_...ored_Cable.htm includes info on Static Timing for B18/20 which may be of interest. Oh, meant to ask...will the tachometer work ok with the 123 ignition, or will it need recalibrating for electronic ignition ?

123 distributor fitted. Instructions which came with the product were wrong, so this forum was valuable. I tried my best to insert the new distributor at TDC for cylinder 1, but had so much trouble trying to start the car that I thought I'd done the 180 degrees thing, but in the end, swiveling the distributor randomly got me there. Car now ticks over at 1600rpm! Shows the benefit of a strong spark! Will adjust that in the morning. Thanks again for the advice!

Where most folk go wrong in fitting 123 is initial setting on wrong side of light. The instructions are correct, only miss read.

I think I might have done that, because the sweet spot was quite a way from where I had initially inserted the shaft. 🙄
