The one i picked and found on fleabay is for the EU spec cars so should be a straight fit, it's cat-back anyway and i couldn't find a header (as the manifold/downpipe is called stateside) except for one turbo model which appeared to be a 5 cylinder 940 THe system i listed above should fit almost all 7/9xx models as most of them (even the diseasels) use the same system from the cat back. I don't have a cat on mine (thankfully!) but it replicates the middle pipe/box back so should be ok. However, i already have a stainless internal/polycarbonate external rear box with twin tail pipes so it's only the middle box i really need to sort, the fron pipes and box were renewed a couple of years back but the middle box is getting a bit chuffy round the seams/welds.

Morning, has anybody in the know thought about putting together an enquiry for say 6 systems for a pre face lift 745 with a known s/s exhaust maker just to see if a good price could be had. Iam sure that there would be a good few takers if a good price could be obtained because it would become a fit and forget purchase.Reason for this comment is my car passed its MOT today and the tester suggested I may need to consider a new exhaust before I submit it again.

Not wishing to rain on your parade Hylton but have you any idea how hard it would be to get that amount of people who want/need a new exhaust, have them all available on the same day and in the same area and for them all to want the same thing?
The reason i ask is because on another forum, someone came up with a similar idea about the OBX Racing exhaust headers, or as we call them, manifolds and downpipes for a model that is even more poorly supported in the exhaust area than the 7/9xx Volvos. Just about struggled to get enough interest for 6 manifolds (that was with the originator of the idea buying two!) but the killer of that was the supplier wouldn't entertain a bulk deal. Then one person dropped out, followed by another and the idea was shelved. It's a great idea in theory and more likely to be viable as the exhaust builder would know they had 6 customers in one hit. However, factor in that the 740 had a variety of exhausts according to year, engine, transmission and that makes it harder still. Now factor in that one person might want "factory quiet", another might want "Refugee from Santa Pod", two others might want "a little bit sporty", another might want a 3" system and the last might want a 2.5" system (assuming the other 4 people want the standard 2" bore system = 2 1/8" OD) and you have a recipe for confusion at the very least. Then there's the tailpipe choice - some might want to replicate the original factory "S" shaped tailpipe, others might want two "S" shaped pipes, others might want one normal size straight pipe, someone else might want twin tailpipes and some might want a single large oval or "letterbox". That's in addition to the 11 different systems fitted by Volvo from 1984-91 : http://webcat.klarius.eu/cgi-bin/cat...body=*ALL&kid= I mentioned Demand Engineering earlier in the thread, this page of this thread shows their work. Originally the small pic at the end was a video of how it sounded - it was very nice! https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...230038&page=19 Thing is, when people are spending a fair chunk of change on something they're going to have for quite a while, they are going to be a bit more choosy about how they want it to look/sound so a "one size fits all" isn't going to work, although the basic design on Andys car might suit most people. He had the middle box (just in front of the back axle) deleted from his system so if it looks strange, that's why. The front box on the 760 is more or less just a collector box for the front pipes and from that point back, the system is pretty much the same for all 1988 on 7/9xx models with a few minor exceptions. Like i said, great idea in theory!

On the Club Polo forum one of the suppliers arranged to have JP exhausts in Macclesfield make them a batch of exhausts specifically for the supercharged G40s. They had a batch made and jigs but from what I remember it was a big pain trying to get people to pay up or sell the spares.
There’s nearly always problems with group buys. A lot of manufacturers will only work on the cars in front of them to ensure fitment.

Hi!
If willing to import from Sweden there are at least these brands of stainless exhausts: I assume some independent Volvo specialists/performance companies in UK, forget their names now, imports stuff from at least either Ferrita or Simons. Standard: https://rakaror.o.se/avgassystem/volvo.html Sport: http://www.a-alt-avgassystem.se/rost...ortsystem.html Both standard and sport: https://www.ferrita.com/sv/produkter.../volvo/740-745 Chromium steel, sport: https://simons.se/products/sportsyst...vo/940/940/384

Note about my post above!!! Big apologies, i got it wrong, it wasn't Demand Engineering, it was ISC just outside Ipswich. Post #187 is the relevant one then a post on the next page gives cost and the company name :
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...230038&page=19 https://www.powerflowexhausts.co.uk/Powerflow-Ipswich Again, sorry for any confusion i may have caused, it's another option at least!

If you goto a longlife exhaust dealer they will build you a system, that can be stock or a little more noisey. I have a longlife rear box only on the 940, idle is a little more throaty but barely noticeable.
If you want a bit more noisey, you can go for a 2 box straight through system. It will idle very throaty but not be a screamer at high rpms. Definately louder than stock but not excessive. I have this in my B230FT powered 360, its the quietest car on the track. Its very hard to get anything inbetween without alot of experimentation. Longlife do stock systems and powerflow do straight through. I found the powerflow designer/fitter here didn't understand the difference between properly silenced and straight through. Being a welder doesn't make you an Engineer. |

I will get some video of my setup. It's quiet until I put my foot down hard.
