I think the car is now not on Ebay. What happened? Did it sell? Hope he mentioned the KAY plate, that had to be worth something

When did the 25 years for tax exemption change?

In 1997, about three nano-seconds after Gordon Brown became Chancellor of the Exchequer.

It was a spiteful act, but hardly surprising given that G Brown has no driving licence and consequently no interest in cars, except as a cash-cow for easy tax revenue.

Default volvo 145 estate back up for sale

It is looking quite possible that my estate is still up for sale as the winning bidder was from ireland and has decided that it may be too expensive to come over and drive back. I want £1250 for it if anyone is interested. I need to confirm with the winning bidder for certain before i commit.

But will the tories re-introduce the 25 yr rule?

BTW - RFL has not been hypothecated since introduced 70 yrs ago, it has always gone to general expenditure

Good luck with the sale Dean, wish it was a pre `73 though!

According to the acknowledged masters of all things truthful and accurate (snigger) Wikipedia, and I quote:-

"Excise duty on road vehicles was first introduced in the 1888 budget and a new excise duty specifically for motor vehicles was introduced in 1920 which was paid into the road fund and was hypothecated for road construction. Since 1937 the money has gone into central government revenues and since then has not contributed directly to road building or maintenance."

They're much more likely to scrap it altogether and make all cars pay RFL

I heard a few years ago that if the tories got back in they would reinstate it. That was before the country went bankrupt though!!

Ahoy,

Is the 145 still for sale? If so: how many miles has it covered, does it have an overdrive, and where in the country are you?

Thanks very much,

Sam

Hi there. The car is still for sale as the winning bidder decided that it was going to cost too much to get it back to ireland.
The car has only done 114000 miles. The speedo could have been changed but i doubt it. The overall condition gives me the impression it is genuine. There is no overdrive fitted but i don't think many estates would have had overdrive from the factory.

I would accept £1100 for the car if i transferred the number onto retention or £1275 as it is. I have been looking into the valuation of the number and indeed it is worth around £1000, so would make the asking price of £1275 including the number a very cheap car if you sold the number.
