Default V50 P0026 Fault Code

This Fault Code is described as Intake Valve Control Solenoid Range / Performance Bank 1. Anyone know where I can read something about what this solenoid does?

I'm new to this car so I may be completely wrong... however it sounds like its either the variable valve actuator solenoid, or the VVT pulley. Apparently its usually the pulley, but people try replacing the solenoid first as its a much cheaper fix - replacing the solenoid requires the cambelt to be removed...

(Or at least this is what I have read)

it is is very important to have the correct grade of clean oil for vvt solenoids to work properly .if they get blocked with dirty or wrong grade oil this can cause faults to show . iv just replaced some on a citroen for this reason
