Default Useful Euro 4 info

I found this whilst surfing last night, and it covers a lot of areas that have been debated on here for quite a while. For example: what makes the car decide that it is time to regenerate?

Read all about it here.

A more precise position is obtained more quickly during regulation by means of electrically controlling the guide rails. The risk of overshoots in charge pressure due to the sluggishness in earlier pneumatic systems is eliminated.
Well that confirms some ideas of mine with the boost control of the EUIII vs EUIV (i.e popping intercoolers)

Boost plots can be compared here http://forums.t5d5.org/topic/17282-m...v-unmapped-d5/, especially post #14

I've just had a look through the technical pages where that document was located. Can't find anything. Shame
Understandable though as it is designed to ilustrate the (improvements? - debatable LOL) between the older coal burner and new version

Fascinating.

It seems to confirm that the throttle IS used to assist regeneration, which is a point I've made emphatically several times, but been contradicted by others (ETA = Electronic Throttle Actuator)...

Quote:
ETA is primarily used during exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control, during regeneration of the particle filter and when the engine is switched off.
That would explain why £400 throttle failures seem to occur in cars that are mainly used for short journeys (such was my experience), even though the DPF never gets congested enough for the 'soot filter full' message. By repeated attempts at regeneration, even though it eventually succeeds, the poor throttles are just overworked.

I've just got back here after wading around a lot of the stuff in those technical pages and it's a gold mine.

Very interesting stuff in the document itself.

I just noticed the foreword describes an accompanying booklet...

My red text...
Quote:
The booklet is available for download from Volvo Cars Leaning Center
Not sure if this refers to some unexpected effect of Euro IV on anti-roll suspension, or an effect on trainee engineers who've made the most of Swedish hospitality?
