This is normal with the wider tyres and there is a rubbing panel built into the wheel arch to cater for it.

As suggested by the other guys on here this is a common fault with Volvo's and a well known issue, i have 17s on mine and it happens, i have spoke to my mechanic before and i have been told different things.
some people put washers under the stop locks but this will compromise your turning circle. my mechanic thinks its the bush's slightly worn. all in all this is an known issue by volvo and also by the mot company (Vosa) make sure you have it mot'd by someone who knows its a common issue. hope this helps as the others say don't worry about it it happens to us all |

Check your wheel steering limiter, if thats oke? then use wheel spacers 5mm or watch your speed when doing full lock.

Since nobody's mentioned it yet, are you sure your car's wheels are the ones on which it left the factory? The cars have steering limiters, which come in different sizes depending upon the width of the tyre. If somebody has 'enhanced' the car with bigger wheels, without changing the limiters, it could cause rubbing.
Equally, aftermarket wheels often have incorrect offset, which the suppliers often tell you 'doesn't matter much'. It matters quite a lot, actually, and can lead to rubbing among other things. Even if the wheels are the originals, make sure the tyres are the same size as originals. People have been known to fit inappropriate tyres to standard wheels. Personally, I'd advise against the use of spacers. They will disrupt the steering offset (related to, but not the same thing as, wheel offset), and thus they may interfere with the car's handling. If we assume that the Volvo engineers chose the kingpin inclination angle carefully, for steering offset consistent with optimal handling, then any deviation from it will be sub-optimal. Failing all else, as has been said, based on the fact it seems to be a widespread problem, you may have to live with it. Then again, my own 225/45/17s on an S60 have never once rubbed in 60k miles, so not all cars on wider suffer from it. |
