Default Where's the dipstick??

Just collected my new (to me) V70 D5 Geartronic. Very, very nice, but, doing my usual checks of a new car, and even having read the owners manual, I am at a loss trying to find the geartronic gearbox oil dipstick!
Can someone please enlighten me?

Is the location actually IN the owners handbook anywhere?

Alec, it depends on year of car. Later 'boxes do not have a dipstick but use instead a 'two stage' drain/level plug.

Paul,
Its a 2005 reguistered, and 2005 model year car, the 2005-2007 shape and type.
24000 miles
Presumable, if mine has the two stage drain/level plug the only way I can check the oil condition is to drain a bit off?
Also, in this case, how the heck do you do the oil change, i'e' how do you top the oil up with the oil cooler pipe off draining into a container?

Default gearbox

There is a filler plug on top of the gearbox.

On my 2005 Geartronic model (petrol) the dipstick is hidden under the turbo pipework and only about 6" long. It is thoughtfully coloured yellow.

So you may find it if you look closer to the gearbox than you may be used too.

On my T5 53reg the geartronic gearbox dipstick is down the front of the engine at the bottom, you cant see it with the naked eye so you have to stick your hand down in between the engine and fan, then move a few hoses out the way and hay presto, yes its an akward bugger to get in and out and as for filling it up its either a dealer job or call the A team and they can knock something up with a acetaline torch and a drill for you (nightmare).

The father in law says the dipstick for his D5 in roughly the same area and he knocked up a hose with a funnel on the top and put it over where the dipstick come out to fill up.

He was also told normal auto transmission fluid is no good for volvo's, you have to get it from volvo at the as usual 3x more the price as its different grade oil than normal????

Thanks Chris and Saufboy for your comments. You have to know that Alec is used to the earlier autos and dipstick location its just that he has a much later gearbox which as I said does not have a dipstick.
If antbody is interested I will try to source some pics and checking/filling method.
