General: - Help & Advice - 940 Handbrake & More

Hi all,I know this is a long post so apologies in advance.
I was hoping for a bit of advice as i'm not that clued up on cars apart from general maintenance.
I'd not been able to afford a car for a while so i grabbed the chance to buy a ,Volvo 940, GL 1990 at a really good price.
I knew there was a problem with the handbrake slipping so thought i'd be best to put it into the garage and get any other essential work done.
The handbrake was only tightened (which i had already done myself previously).They fitted transmission shoes and rear brake pads and retested the brakes.
I was wondering how much this should have cost and i know i would need to get a new handbrake front cable so would i be better to order one (any advice on which one and where would be appreciated) and ask them to fit it or let them order and fit it?

Not sure is the cable is the right one but gives an idea of price.they have one for £6 as well .you will need to phone to get correct one.
