Oil normally makes its way into the intercooler by passing the turbo seals. On the front of the block where the dipstick goes is the crankcase breather. Oily fumes also make their way into the intercooler pipework from here. Cleaning the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) pipework helps to keep pressure build up to a minimum, lessening the likelihood of oil leaks.

Years left in it they are good for 300 thousand plus + youres is just run in

Mine is better than that brand new zafira in the picture engine wise it's quieter and more lively and it's done 145 thousand more miles. I get the occasional DMf clatter but that hasn't happend for 6 months. But yes that's true lol, out of the two give me my old volvo diesel anyday

Engine wise it's never gone wrong touch wood but lately I've had suspension parts and ball joints fail but mine has done nearly 150 thousand that's to be expected. But engine wise it's all original, only thing that's gone wrong is the temp switch that was £20.

Welcome to the forum. Expect a bit of oil in the intercooler pipe but if it's more than half a cup full, then you need to investigate further. 5.4l is correct for the amount and it's 2 litres between min and max on the dipstick so it sounds like you're losing it via a leak somewhere rather than burning it as that much on a 100 mile journey would leave clouds of smoke behind you.

The clouds of smoke come and go that's why I'm trying to believe that's it's just the old oil from the last turbo malfunction

They do soot especially if it's confined to long periods of town driving they need a blast up the m/way once you've serviced it and got it right don't be afraid to Cain it Italian tune up if you like they love it and it clears the sooting up to a degree don't forget modern diesels etc have loads of filters on them too stop them sooting like dpf, I give mine a good blast up the m5 once a week and it cured the sooting/smoke if you like

Just make sure youre it's serviced and the cambelt is in order all the usual things before a Cain and after a blast idle it for a few minutes to let the turbo cool and that's it

I hope its a straight forward job for you. I agree a service is in order, the pcv and egr need to be looked after. Might be an idiot fix! A Oh that! Many post's on here about oil everywhere and it's a £10 hose.

Good luck with it hope a service and a clean here and there works, if you go anywhere near the egr or intake make sure you wear long sleeves because the black stuff lingers on youre skin for days after.here's some pictures of mine stripped down gives you a ideaegr valve

No worries it's a easy job just take youre time and don't force the egr it will come out eventually it feels like it doesn't want to come out, I was worried about damaging it but a few gentle words of encouragement and tips from gatos on Skype and I did it. But next time im wearing long sleeves lol
