Question How often does your car do a dpf regeneration

Hi to all,

My 2012 S80 D3/D4 163 is doing a regeneration every 200/300 miles ..I,m sure it used to be about every 500/700 miles. The car has about 200000 km ..124000 miles. What kind of distance do you get between regenerations? The driving conditions and diesel are the same. Many thanks

Shorter journeys (lockdown) would cause soot to build up quicker, meaning more often regens? Also how do you know its doing a regen? I have no idea when mine is (have confirmed in VIDA it is).

It will be a dynamic based regen based on the % of soot in the DPF rather than a regen every X miles.

2012 d5, 230 000 km on it, use to regen every 800-1000 km. Im driving about 50/50 city/highways.

There are plenty of reasons for it to regen often, in terms of few miles between regenerations, but in your case i would have two things in mind.

1. Faulty dpf differential pressure sensor, this triggers regen to happen as often as you mention.
This has a easy and relatively cheap fix, and can be controlled with cheap obd tools.

2. Faulty dpf filter (full), this can also have several reasons to why it happens this early.

Get it fixed as soon as possible, driving like this might harm your dpf.

Not noticed mine ever done one, had it a year now, prob done about 3k, some days I only do about 2 miles to the dog walk and back, once a week I do about 22 miles, now and again I go a bit further afield, I didn't know anything about DPF's prior to buying the car (see signature), had I known, I would have stuck with Laguna's........
