A few things to consider before you pull the trigger on this.

1) The garage says it's a dead actuator;
2) The garage says it's not serviceable:
3) We do know that it is indeed servicable.

If you trust their diagnosis, their cure is wrong. If you don't trust their diagnosis, you need a second opinion. These other ones that you spoke to, did they specify why it's a bad idea to just replace whatever has malfunctioned instead of replacing the whole turbo? I mean, one can always replace the headlight assembly when a bulb goes out but that's not good for the planet!

Also, is the car even worth half of what the turbo replacement would cost?

tbh just going to pay it and pray tht its the last thing to go wrong with the car for a long while as it getting out off hand
go and find a Volvo specialist BEFORE spending any £
why
Volvos Need "vida" to read the codes Properly, that will tell the specialist And you what Really is wrong And how to fix it

if you dont,, its "guess and replace" until it is fixed,, Great for the garage ,, not good at all for your wallet.

£1800 for a volvo turbo,,, £1200 for a aftermarket V £80ish to have the Proper codes read and Know what Really is wrong and how to fix,,,, no brainer really

they are a volvo specialist and ive had a couple different guys tell me tht the actuators and the turbos are calibrated together so that while its technicaly possible to replace the actuator its not assured to work and if they do they may not work together quite as they ought to.

one indicated that its an important issue for this turbo/actuator but not so much for others which is why others say they can be replaced independently.

Have you contacted any turbo specialists or actuator specialists. I too was told by volvo that the turbo needs replacing as the actuator is part of turbo. At time of manufacturing they are correct,however as time has gone on there are places that repair the actuator. Like my v70d5. Contact the specialists first then you will know one way or the other
