Default Fuel economy

I was going to do a mpg rant thread, till i did some research.....

I expected the diesel version to be a lot better over the say T5, i nearly bought an S40 T5 (800 quid cheaper) and saw that the MPG was about 32 i think it was, so i opted for the diesel and estate model, as ya do, assuming the latter would be much better on fuel, rookie mistake .

Having come from a 04 Laguna 1.9DCi that returned 42mpg on short'ish runs and i never had Miss Daisy in the back either, it would do 51mpg if i had to ferry her about, hence she walked I know the Laguna is mostly plastic or some other light material so it does have that going for it but 08 (Mk III) model is heavier and returned about the same, had one, prefered the MkII. For a 10mpg drop is quite a lot in my book, yeah, taking is steady on the same runs, im getting 33/32mpg, but thats with driving like Morgan Freeman, with maybe the odd tickle cause lets face it, its hard not too, but its still a big shock when i could get about the same with a T5 with the same driving style with a tad more get up and go, not to mention the cost of petrol vs diesel too, I did have the C70 T5 GT (think it was GT) and the S70 T5 and i do miss that oomph lol
