Yes they are the same fitment. The headlamps have a black surround inside on the S40 whereas they're grey on the V50 I don't know why they did it. The V50 grille is a bit old fashioned looking for some reason.

Look on YouTube and there's a really easy guide to removing the grille (takes about 15 seconds to do).

Is there any reason why I Can't do this on my v50? I haven't got the adjustment on the dashboard and the adjusters on the headlight unit is obviously broken!

You don't have the adjuster 'wheel' on the dash next to the light switch?

Maybe yours has factory HID's (or is supposed to have) I guess you're not 'allowed' to adjust HID's from within the car as they adjust automatically by sensing the load on the rear suspension.

You must have (or had) factory HID's then?

The biggest complaint on here was the factory level setting was too low on the ground so even if you did have the brighter HID's you still wouldn't gain distance viewing in fact your vision would be worse with such a bright area of light on the ground in front of the car as your pupils would tend to close a bit.

I've been running my modified headlamps for 2 weeks and it has been a joy, so much more relaxing at night and on unlit main roads I can easily travel at 20mph more because I can see much further. Previously it only felt safe to go at 50mph on dual carriageways.

No-one has flashed me even going over a crest in the road when the beam would be right at them.

Where abouts are you putting the washers? Do you have a picture?

See the two holes at the top, they are the two uppermost fixing points for the projector housing using torx screws. The washers fit between the screw holes and the eyelets on the projector housing thus tilting the projector upwards slightly.

This was my thread and Photobucket ruined the photo hosting when they changed their user policy.

I think I've got the pics somewhere but basically take the rear 'door' off the headlamp unit and if you remove the two lower torx fixing screws for the projector housing you can then introduce small washers (packers) to 'tilt' the projector upwards slightly therefore increasing the beam distance on the road. It only needs to be 'packed out' by about 2-3mm.
