Default Help Needed - Soot Issue

Driving into work this morning which is 30 miles in and 30 miles home the car in front accelerated and plums of black soot was coming out.

100M down the road my soot full message appeared on the dash and the car stopped and will no longer start.

I am pretty sure its not my DPF as the car gets driven very hard twice a day and its far to coincidental that this happen when the car in front was pluming really thick black smoke.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, even if i could get it to start and limp to a mechanic.

DPF sensors are inside the exhaust system, they measure the pressure before and after the DPF. While it seems to be a huge coincidence, I don't see the connection between this pressure and the other car's exhaust. Maybe others will shed a light on this.

For now, I would try to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then see if the car starts. If yes, connect it to Vida and check the DPF state, if it is not too bad, you can manually start the regeneration process (it will take around 30 minutes, so make sure to do this outdoors).

Have you checked the condition of your air filter?

Ideally it needs to be checked for codes with VIDA. The DPF can fail to regenerate due to other issues (glow plugs), meaning it will continue to block despite being driven hard.

I like your thinking, however it will be no way related to the car in front

Thank you guys for responding. Yes the more i think about it it has to be a coincidence.

I have attached pictures of the error codes before i cleared them and after.
The car is the 2009 C30 D5 which i failed to mentioned.
I have it lifted and left to my local mechanic.
It will not crank for any longer than 1 second.

You need VIDA to confirm if/when it last did a regen really.

To fix the immediate issue of DPF full you can clean or replace it, the garage should be able to advise
