Ignition on to unlock the gear selector and so long as you can select neutral it should push.
Let us know how you get on.

Having spent too much time pushing a friend's Mercedes S Class on multiple occasions, I can confirm it is possible to push an auto. Just put it in neutral as you would a manual.

AFAIK
It should push in neutral although it may be harder than a manual, if it really is just round the corner then you could tow it, but don't tow it further than that as it will damage the autobox. To transport it you will need a trailer or recovery vehicle to get all four wheels off the ground.

It used to be said tow up to 10 miles at no more than 30mph with an auto .

Unless you and your mates are body biulders I would find a tow rope and another vehicle capable of towing it. Just go gently. There is no difference between pushing it at walking pace and towing it at walking pace as far as the car is concerned, there's a hell of a difference as far as you are concerned.

Paul.

Exactly, Paul! 'Round the corner' will be fine. For distances greater than your 'rule-of-thumb', or at higher speeds, the vehicle may be safely towed after first removing the prop-shaft. For longer distances, and for safety's sake, I would opt for a suspended tow (with the driven wheels suspended).

Regards, John.

Both the XC60 and the XC40 manual says that they should not be towed faster than 80km/h and no further than 80km.

The advice on this has changed over the years,it used to be said that towing an auto shouldn't be done without first disconnecting the prop shaft or suspending the driven wheels. My Omega can be towed[without either of these being done] for up to 40mls at not more than 50mph-whether you'd want to is an entirely different question."Round the corner" should be fine.
