480 Info center problemet
Hi all
got into the car the other day and my info center decided to stop working. nothing around the edge or in the display or any fuel bars.e everything else was normal took it out, checked all the fuses, and bulbs, all working fine. so then i rummaged in the passengers side and pulled out the CEM, unplugged it - re plugged it, no difference. whent to a scrap yard and was kindly allowed to try some bits out,so we tried a different CEM & a different Info display (both were exactly the same type as mine) no good, same results. drove home. took everything out again, and replugged it all back in, now my car wont even start, first it was all lumpy and stalled, then wouldnt fire at all, just turned over! got a feeling the fuel pumps not kicking in cos you dont here that weird noise from the back any more when you turn the ignition on for the first time. whats going on???? please help, i'm getting desp. :o( |

RE: 480 Info center problemet
I would thoroughly check all unpluggable connections to the box, as they have been known to loosen up causing intermittent/permanent problems All the best, Peter. |

RE: 480 Info center problemet
I know you say you've checked the bulbs, but the usual cause is failure of the halogen bulb behind the display. there is one waay to check. Get a torch & shine it on the infocenter. If you can faintly see fuel bars etc. it's the halogen bulb. if not, probably worth disconnecting the 2 multiplugs & cleaning with contact cleaner spray (don't use WD40).
Luck, Chris. |

That is the job that WD40 was designed for. I have used it since the late fifties on all sorts of aircraft wiring connectors and motor vehicles with absolutely no problems experienced. All the best, Peter. |

RE: 480 Info center problemet
have sorted prob.
turned out to be the earth wire had snapped where it attached to the alternator. (Very thin brown & grey wire tagged to alternator chassis) reattached it and all works now. also thin red wire had snapped but have no idea what that did cheers all |
