Default Air bag steering wheel

Ok....V70 2005 model on a 54plate

Need the steering wheel air bag off as steering wheel is loose

This is a good self isolating job .....but how hard can it be!! Not the first time I've tried....

Usual screwdriver in rear etc....nothing...

I've just noticed 2 holes in the side of the wheel....not the rear....with I think T25 bolts

What do these do? Some in-between years airbag fixing till 05 came out??

Unless there's anyone in north London who can do this in the alleged 5 minutes....handgel supplied and distance kept....

I'll try and add photos

Ok how do I attach photos!!

Those the holes at 8 and 4 o'clock?
T25 or T27?
Need the proper tool as the hole is tight and lots of the extension type with bits get jammed before engaging the screws.
Mine was an 03 car.

Yes they are at 4 and 8 o'clock and I'd say a T25

My torx are all bits so too wide to fit the only torx screwdriver I can find is a T27

Mine is 2004 registered (54 plate) 2005 model

Are you saying in your 03 year that the air bag is held in place by the fixings (T25 ish) at 4 and 8 o'clock?

If so I'd suspect mine are the same.... Looking at the back of the wheel through a mirror it doesn't look like the YouTube videos of air bag removal via spring clips.....

Yes.
I believe that the S80 had the spring clip arrangement.
There should be a little self tapper in a holder on the contact reel for locking it before removal.

Sorry don't get that.....

Sounds like you're taking about when the air bag is off..... To do the clock spring or something

I need to get my airbag off

Does the airbag on your 03 get held in place by spring clips accessible from rear of steering wheel or T25 bolts at 4 and 8 o'clock on side of steering wheel

Held on by the 4 and 8 screws.

Hi thanks

May I ask a question.... To confirm your airbag is held on by two T25 torx screws which are accessible at 4 and 8 o'clock

Does your wheel also have two holes at the rear? Mine does and the more I look they don't appear to be access points for airbag removal.....

The holes are more than halfway back to the ignition switch. The entry angle is almost 45 degrees to the line of the steering column. I'm not aware of other holes at the back of the wheel.

That's the same for my wheel too (except for the home at the back)

So those two holes which are angled etc on yours release the airbag

Therefore even though mine is supposed to be a 2005MY and I'm going to have to assume that as it's an early 2005 model that I release my airbag via bolts not spring clips....
