You don't think he might of collected an oak tree, lamp post or a park bench whilst peering thro' the mist of the screen... ... do you

Erm yup standard on even Vauxhall?
It was standard on my old 96 Omega and it happens on my even older 87 Trans Am (also GM).
Infact I think it's standard on quite a few, if not all vehicles fitted with A/C or Climate Control.
Certainly every single one I have owned and that amounts to a good few

All the cars I've owned with a/c it automatically turns on the a/c when directed to the screen, you can then turn it onto Econ/off afterwards though.

I'm still trying to get it through to my better half that the best way to de mist the windscreen is to have hot air onto screen with AC switched on to remove moisture as it evaporates. It's the 'but AC makes the car cold' at the same time that it's being heated that confuses some I think.
