Default HU-850 repair service

Hi - my HU-850 is kaput (no sound apart from a 'popping' every 10 seconds or so)

Is there a UK based repairer that someone could recommend?

TIA

J

https://volvodiagnostic.com/en/contact-us might be able to help you out but there are others no doubt

failing that double din units aren't massively expensive at the cheaper end, and and potentially a less cheap one would have bluetooth and DAB and reversing camera etc, just something to consider perhaps

I had exactly the same as you with my HU850. I did get a quote from a company that repairs them after struggling to find someone, but basically, due to the age of these units and their experience, they only offer a complete strip and resolder of every joint.

They can not guarantee a fix but if they can not fix there is still a charge of around £100 to reclaim some of the effort to get this far.
Have a search on here under HU850 I did post a copy of the email I received from them.
In the end, to save the gamble, I just replaced mine with an aftermarket unit.
You will end up loosing your cup holder due to the way the it is intergrated into the unit.

Have a look through this thread. Marcel repaired my HU 650, did a good job and not too expensive. Couple of contact options included in.

Hi - and thanks. Which aftermarket unit did you fit, did you have to replace the amplifier (under the seat) as well?

I just got a Kenwood single din unit as the wife (its her car) didn't want anything fancy like double din.
Took it to my local audio centre. I seem to recall that the fitting kit was more expensive than the radio cos you need a crossover for the harness and the mounting panel for the dash etc. As I said, you lose the cup holder, but she gained a shelf/cubby hole under the radio.
