V70 AWD transfer case and collar questions

Hi There

I replaced my angle gear sleeve on my 2005 XC90 about 3.5 years ago. At the time I thought the input shaft on the gear looked ok. I changed the oil in front and back boxes and serviced the haldex and all seemed well. 3.5 years later its gone again, no AWD and prop shaft spins freely when on the ground.

I don't know if the bevel input shaft had some damage after the first one or whether these things fail often. The 2nd one only did 30k miles and not very heavy driving at that.

Have others had issues with the replaced sleeve not lasting long?

How crucial is it to use the Volvo grease on the splines?

Are the reconditioned units like new? ie is the input shaft replaced?
