Default aircon module no power

Hello,
I had a problem about a month ago where I couldn't operate any heating.
There were no lights on the aircon panel at all. I checked fuses and found nothing gone.

then while driving home the problemwent away of its own accord and the heater was usable no problem.

After about a month now its dead again.

I'm wondering if this would be the same problem as the heater resistor problem I've read about here.

Or is it something different.

I was going to start by taking out the aircon control panel for a look?
(But not sure if there is a code written on the radio.. anything I can do if not?)

So, main question is if people think this is the panel itself or the resistors?

Is there any way to bypass all this? I just need to be able to clear the windscreen in this horrible cold weather..

Thanks

The heater resistors are only for altering the blower fan speed. You seem to be having power problems if the whole climate control unit just turns off completely. Likely a loose connection or shorting.

There is a problematic wiring loom under the radiator that frays and shorts itself for many people, though I'm not sure if it is related to the climate control unit in any way.

Ohk grand,
Thats great.. its not the heater resistors so I don't have to go pulling out the glove compartment etc.

I need to pull out the climate control unit to check the connections...
(like there is no light in the AC button etc)

Before I do that I have to get the stereo out .. right?

So, I pulled out the stereo just to see if there was a code scribbled on it.. there's not .. so before I go disconnecting it I need to find the security code for it. right?

Is there some way to find the code from the serial number?

I took photos of all the barcodes etc on it..

May get luck if you phone your local Volvo dealer, they do give codes for free in most cases.

I don't think you need to remove the radio to remove the climate control unit. Here is a guide for phase 2 cars:

Pretty much the same for phase 1.

Cool, thanks.
I actually rang a local dealer and they assigned what sounded like a little girl to the task. She rang me back with a code (6231) which she said she looked up on the system.

It was FOC and I'm grateful for it.. just a little nervous that she got it right..
I wonder is there any way to test the code before I bite the bullet...

Oh right, so I've a P2.
Great stuff.. thanks for clearing that up.
I thought they changed in 2004 and wasn't sure which I had then.. I was looking at photos of grilles etc trying to figure it out..

Anyway, got the control unit out.. without de-powering the radio , thanks jto your good self.

Disconnected and reconnected all the leads to the controller... still no joy.

Don't know if there is power going to it or not or if the unit itself is dead...

Any idea what the wire colours mean so I can at least see if there's 12v going to it? Have a multimeter that's been dying to be used since Christmas...

They STOPPED building in 2004 so after the Classic comes Ford..........
Grill is not the best thing to look at as many people change them (i did) P1 side markers are about 3" long P2 its closer to 5" also where the electric window switch is placed, if its on the centre console it as P1 on the doors might be P1.5 but definitely P2.
