Thanks for the suggestion. I found a video on YT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cdj9wqX1y4

and it seems that it's behind the lower dashboard cover ,on the driver's side. Unless they are talking about a different solenoid?

I found a genuine Volvo transmission solenoid on eBay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403871182...hoCs7IQAvD_BwE

if that's the correct one?
I can ask the guys in the other garage where I'm booked in, to have a look at it. But because that issue happens very rarely, they may not find it and most likely I would end up going to a Volvo or try finding a skilled electrician I guess.

If it is that solenoid, can it be fixed or you rather have to replace it?

EDIT: that's a video for a brake switch, not the shift interlock solenoid However I've got another question...in those geartronic shifters, do you always have to press the button behind the knob to change the gear? I didn't have any button on the shifter in my previous car with automatic transmission, but since this one has, I assumed you have to press it.

and also one more thing...if it's the solenoid, shouldn't it send some kind of fault code to the ECU?

Hi .
The solenoid is item 11 on the diagram . Part no. = 30759312 or 9480619 depending on which you have fitted .
You can see its location ( yellow arrow) .
I don`t think you need new parts . I think everything just needs re-adjusting.

Cable 21 comes from the ignition lock .
Cable 16 comes from the PNP switch on top of the transmission housing and under the air filter housing .
Item 1 (the shift lever) just press the button when going in/out of Park and Reverse.

Thanks a lot for the pictures. It helps a lot.

So I would have to remove all the trims around the gear selector and should be able to remove the solenoid? or it's not that easy? I remember that once, when I took my car to a garage where they were supposed to replace the handbrake lines, they broke the clips of the trim on the right side and said they couldn't remove it without doing any damage...In the end they replace the trim with a new one ,but obviously I wouldn't like to replace the trims again
