Default Aircon problem!

I got my Aircon fully recharged today. However, the mechanic told me that even though the system is now fully brimmed and there are no leaks, the Thermostat in the aircon unit has gone.

So they gave me a free, £50 recharge

However, I now need a new thermostat! How much do these cost, and where can I get them? I could give Rufe an e-mail and get it probably?

Also, how long will it take to fit? He said something about taking out the dashboard to replace it.

At an Independant, how much do you think I would pay for a new to be installed?

Cheers guys!

If you remove the panel with the 3 knobs on it there is a small thermostat for the climate connected to a huge long tube, dont know how much they cost pounds i would have thought, may be worth googling salvage etc, there are plentyt of volvo specialist and buy the complete panel.

Ooh - I actually think I've already baught the panel already, was going to fit it but never got round to it!

I baught it because the knobs etc felt like they were 'used plenty of times', I know it sounds slightly sad.. but I'm anal!

I'll post pics to see if we're on the right lines. if you could find any pictures to help it would aid greatly!

are you sure he didn't mean pressostat? this fits in to the top of the drier and is fairly prone to going o/c . this would stop your compressor kicking in even if the system's recharged.

VOLVO DEALER = +1.

KWIK FIT = -10

The Volvo dealer sussed the problem within a minute or two! The compressor wasn't even running! Wtf are ****-fit thinking?!

The fuse was gone in that little box in the engine bay. He was a very helpful chap, and did it for free. It now works nicely! It's nice and cool and I'm happy. No more windows open etc!

The guy was adament at ****-fit that the bloody dash needed to come out etc! Christ!

I'm happy

Free recharge, gas, leak test etc, and a free fuse! Mwahahaha bargin
