Take the engine splash guard off from under the engine.
You can do this without vehicle ramps or a hoist.

The big long plastic pipe (the charged air pipe) from the turbo at the rear of the engine down under the engine all the way to the front and up to the intercooler is immediately visible.

It is common for this pipe to crack, causing an air leak, whistling noises, loss of power, excessive soot and DPF filter sooting up quickly.

Replacing the pipe is quite straight forward. Replacing it is much much easier if the vehicle is on ramps or a hoist.

Here's a video showing the pipe.

The car is a XC90 diesel, in Germany. Video is in German.

attached to that will be an L shaped resonator box that has an orange seal at each end and goes up to the turbo.

These orange seals often fail and give your symptoms.

If you look at the video that Swiss posted you will see him touch the resonator box at 15m 55 seconds in.

That's where the orange seals are located.

Give all the intercooler hoses a check to make sure there secured and not worked loose or split and also the intercooler itself hasn’t split.

Hi, I had a look today and i can't see any leaks, the top washer on the resonator box is hard to see and i can't imagine how you would remove it. see pictures of the bottom washer and an attempt at the top one. Oh and i forgot to check the intercooler hoses, i'll do that tomorrow. Ian
