Default Sensus Map Update problem

I have been trying to update my Sensus Map with the latest update for Europe, without any success. Every time I attempt it, I get a “Map update failed. USB unreadable” message.

The process I am using is to copy the map update to hard disk, then using a newly formatted FAT32 32Gb USB, I copy from the hard disk to the USB. I don’t use the quick format option, so it is a full format of the USB.

I then use the Sensus Update ‘Check Download’ on the USB, which passes successfully.

When I insert the USB into the car I get the update ongoing screen and a progress bar that shows some progress by moving along approx. 1 cm. Then it fails with the “Map update failed. USB unreadable” message.

I have tried 2 different USBs with the same result, the second one is a ScanDisk was bought new on Friday, so I know the USB is OK.

Any Ideas what is going on?

I get this every time I update. I did the latest update today and got the usb unreadable message four times. If you leave the usb stick in and press exit on the steering wheel it restarts the update from where it failed and continues. The progress bar resets to the start and then continues from where it left off after a few seconds.

Thank you for the feedback, I will try this later. This has been driving me mad trying to get the maps updated.

Could it be that there is a bug in the Volvo map software download

I loaded mine straight from volvo site on the PC to a 64 gb stick. Loaded first go into my XC90. This is the second time of updating whole maps and never had a problem. I have also done smaller updates via my in car modem and 3 card and again no problem.

I always have problems downloading the updates. The instructions on the Volvo site mention pressing 'run'. I use a Mac, so there is no 'run' option, unless its me, its always been more luck than judgement that I've managed to get the updates. I can never remember how I managed to get them the last time! Once they are on the USB stick the rest of it in the car is no problem, Its getting the update onto the stick thats the issue for me.

Finally managed to get the maps update completed last night.

I forget how many times I had to press 'exit' on the steering wheel, but it was a lot. The biggest problem was keeping an eye on the screen, waiting for the fail message to appear, in order to press exit and get it going again.

Probably took about 2 hours in total.

It is strange that some people have no problem at all and others have to keep presing exit to get it to complete.
